Minimum qualifications:
- 5 years of experience managing and leading a multidisciplinary creative team.
- Experience building a team from a startup phase to maturity.
- Experience with elevating underrepresented voices and telling stories from historically marginalized perspectives.
- Experience as an assigning art director for illustration and animation.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in ethical and principled storytelling (e.g., journalism, museum exhibit design, documentary production).
- Experience collaborating with diverse artists in global markets.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software.
- Experience with illustration, design, animation, and interaction design.
- Experience building brand identities or user experiences through creative direction.
- Excellent typographic, illustrative, and visual-design skills.
About the job
The Doodle and Delight Team is responsible for building experiences that surprise and inspire Google Search users. These experiences celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.
The Doodle Team specifically produces the many creative variations of the Google logo that appear on our homepage. Over the past few years, we have built the Guest Artist Program (GAP), where we invite external artists, illustrators, animators, and storytellers to feature on our platform.
As the GAP Direction Lead for Doodle Art, you will manage a team of art directors and artists. You will also commission and collaborate with guest artists in different countries to produce the many illustrated, animated, and interactive Google logos which inform and delight users. You will help decide on the pipeline of subjects we feature, and how we approach each topic.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of art directors that produce illustrations, animations, and interactive experiences in a wide variety of artistic styles and tones.
- Build and maintain a team culture of creativity and respect.
- Navigate the intersection of art and technology by applying principles of user experience design.
- Guide collaborative projects with successful and cohesive launches.
- Manage and define artist agreements and compensation structures.
