Microsoft is seeking a Technical Writer to support a federal customer in the DoD sector.
Responsibilities
Customer Research
Participates in research studies to define a case to incorporate actionable insights into content for one or more area(s). Identifies and assists with determining customer research within one or multiple product/content area/feature(s) by evaluating internal and external data and reports through discussions with team members and cross-functional stakeholders. Synthesizes and consolidates information gathered from research in order to inform and assist with designing content strategy in line with customer and Microsoft needs and mutual goals.
Customer Enagement
Engages with customers and addresses customer feedback. Strives to make content customer focused by facilitating information sharing and incorporating changes from customer feedback. Engages with customer communities to provide support and expertise (e.g., blog posts, social posts, conversations, speaking at events).
Content Strategy
Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to develop content to educate customers about products. Develops and applies content strategy with assistance for one or more product/content/feature area(s) to ensure optimal content creation and serve customer needs, such as guiding customers through an end-to-end journey to leverage content/products that meet their needs. Helps identify points in product/content/feature area(s) where content is appropriate for customers to create appropriate content across product/content/feature areas(s). Looks across a set of content to understand strategy within particular areas.
Content Creation
Applies principles to develop relevant, technically accurate content designed for a variety of users. Helps develop content plan that bridges surfaces, aligns with product strategy, and translates into content tasks in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., engineering, research, design, product) to understand products/content areas/features and problems to author optimal content. Develops content by first understanding prototypes and ideation of features for particular product/content/feature area(s). Applies a foundational understanding of in-product content and/or delivers code, samples, and prescriptive guidance to meet user needs.
Content Improvement
Reviews and improves content for possible inclusion in a portfolio for one or more areas. Follows approval and review process with team members. Works with stakeholders to assess shipped content for potential improvements and to incorporate changes. Tests and builds customer scenarios.
Tools and Operations
Develops skills necessary for creating and delivering content (individually or a small group). Collaborates with other teams to contribute tool efficiency into content creation and delivery. Has solid understanding of the tools and processes required for content development and publishing. Identifies opportunities, plans, drives and executes to improve efficiencies of tools and processes and suggests improvements.
Metrics and Insights
Applies insights from metrics to inform content. Uses metrics to measure customer satisfaction and/or business impact after content is published. Leverages customer feedback mechanisms to collect insights within a particular specialty area. Receives direction based on metrics to improve quality.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Collaborates with relevant cross-team and cross-project stakeholders (e.g., engineers, product managers, marketing, user experience [UX], design, research) to understand and align content with project goals. Maintains relationships with stakeholders to build rapport and credibility. Provides project input with managerial assistance and makes suggestions to stakeholders using comprehensive domain knowledge to achieve project goals.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years of proven writing, content design, information technology (IT), or coding/programming experience
o OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years of proven writing, content design, information technology (IT), or coding/programming experience
o OR 2+ years of proven writing, content design, IT, or coding/programming experience AND a Technical Certification or Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, English, Writing, Journalism, Communications or related field
o OR equivalent experience.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure capabilities
Top Secret Clearance :
The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
US Citizenship:
The successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.
Cloud Screening: Candidates must be able to successfully complete and pass a Microsoft Cloud background screening. Required Cloud Screenings will be administered on a recurring bi-annual basis.
