Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter Technician to join our Surety team in Atlanta, New York, San Francisco or Chicago office location. The Underwriting Technician (UT) will work within the Surety underwriting team and will perform tasks to directly support the underwriting process including bond pricing, premium invoicing, and collections. The UT will also perform additional underwriting support activities associated with agency appointments, the Power of Attorney portal, information gathering, renewals and bond close-out as well as customer service with brokers as well as internal departments. Additionally, the UT will assist with electronic file preparation of Indemnity Agreements on behalf of the Underwriter. Additional responsibilities include:

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Support underwriters with broker activities related to bond issuance.
• Build account files and bond files and ensure file integrity.
• Coordinate and calculate bond pricing, commissions and invoicing with broker, underwriter and liaise with Xceedance team for internal record keeping.
• Ensure Agency Agreements and Appointments in place before bonds issued.
• Primary contact for Power of Attorney Portal for broker changes and IT updates.
• Assist with the drafting, electronic issuance and filing of Indemnity Agreements.
• Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information.
• Coordinate and calendar requests for annual statutory compliance documents.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 3 -5 years commercial insurance or surety experience
• General understanding of policy/bond issuance and industry functionality
• Strong customer service skills for broker interfacing
• Strong analytical and problem- solving skills.
• Proven attention to detail, particularly in drafting documents and preparing invoices
• Must be proactive and able to work within a team environment.
• Self-starter: ability to support and build workflow and process
• Strong communication skills; both verbal and written
• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
• Strong competency in MS Office applications
