Job Opportunity:

Berxi has an exciting opportunity for a Director of QA Engineering to join its Software Engineering team in Boston, MA. This role will lead a team of talented QA engineers in the design, development, and delivery of our cutting-edge direct to consumer digital platform. The QA Director will report directly to the Berxi Chief Technology Officer and will collaborate with cross functional leadership such as Product Management, Product Development, Marketing, Partnership and Customer Experience to deliver high-quality digital insurance products on schedule by reviewing and understanding the value stream of the Berxi insurance business and software development life cycle.

As the Director of QA Engineering, you will manage all QA functions required to deliver high quality product; including but not limited to:

  • Integration Testing
  • E2E Testing
  • Performance Testing
  • Security Vulnerability Testing
  • Manual and Automated Testing

The ideal candidate will be leading QA strategy to take the quality assurance to the highest level by implementing best practices, continuously improve the QA process though innovation, identify and implement quality gates, promote the quality mindset across teams and investing time to build next level leaders in QA to support the Berxi organization as we scale.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for defining QA strategy, approach, and execution in all the platform engineering projects.
  • As a QA leader, you will play a key role within the Engineering organization as a thought leader and implement policies and procedures for the software quality assurance function and be a champion of best practices in the quality area.
  • Evaluating, selecting, deploying, and managing Test management and Automation tools to support the various business needs.
  • Develop and implement SMART QA goals to meet the QA Objectives to monitor various quality KPIs to reduce defects, improve customer experience and prevent data issues.
  • Define and implement Marketing Technology Testing Strategy to test various MarTech platforms that supports customer acquisition and retention such as CDP, CRM, DMP, Marketing Automation tools and analytics platforms.
  • Design and implement performance Testing strategy to improve the customer experience to convert leads to customers.
  • Identifying and deploying cybersecurity measures by continuously performing security vulnerability testing to mitigate top 50 OWASP vulnerabilities and risk management.
  • Very good understating of 3V of data (Volume, Variety and Velocity) to support defining and implementing the Data Quality Strategy.
  • Able to understand the data flow between different applications and create appropriate quality gates to validate the data movement.
  • Manage and promote good working relationships across cross-functional teams.
  • Develop, implement, enforce, and improve upon quality standards, tools, and methods to assure quality across new and existing products and services are maintained.
  • Responsible for managing and directing the quality assurance team (onshore, near shore and offshore).
  • Develop/mentor quality assurance teammates by recruiting, selecting, orientating, and training them to meet the desired skill levels.
  • Engage in the Agile Methodology ceremonies/sprints to inform appropriate data quality and testing considerations as part of acceptance criteria and signed off process.
  • Collaborate with Scrum masters, Engineering Managers and Development team to ensure delivery of high-quality features.
  • Evaluate and cross-trains on integration of technical systems and end to end data flows to ensure appropriate level of testing.
  • Own and manage our test environments by partnering closely with DevOps/platform engineering team in integrating QA automation into the CI/CD pipelines and test automations.
  • Communicate between multiple technical teams to ensure best practices are followed for system wide success.
  • Understand of product requirements, participating in architecture review and software development activities.
  • Manage expectations of internal stakeholders and external interfaces.
  • Monitor the processes during the entire lifecycle for its adherence and updating or creating new processes for improvement and minimizing waste.
  • Encourage and build automated processes wherever possible.
  • Managing periodic reporting on progress to the CTO and other senior management.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience as a manager of quality assurance in an agile environment.
  • Possess high passion for technology and solutions design.
  • Experience in leading the architecture, design, development and operations of enterprise-scale testing frameworks, processes, methodologies for diverse environments, solutions, and products.
  • Experience in building and managing geographically distributed teams located in different time zones.
  • Proficiency in QA methodologies, software testing principles, concepts, verification/ validation techniques, test management, test automation and cross browser and multi-device testing that supports different digital channels.
  • Excellent analytical, research, documentation, project planning and implementation skills.
  • Skills to communicate effectively cross-functionally across various teams, organizations and internal and external stakeholders to drive engineering effort.
  • Ability to adapt and willingness to learn new technologies and techniques
  • Effectively lead and manage change within your area of responsibility as well as across the business value stream.
  • Working knowledge of API and load testing tools such Postman and JMeter.
  • Working knowledge of Performance monitoring tool such as DynaTrace/NewRelic/ Sentry.io.
  • Experience using various bug tracking tools such as JIRA, Shortcut and test management tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working in a CI/CD environment preferably with a modern build release tool such as Jenkins, CircleCI and Github Actions.
  • Passion for managing the dynamics of a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Experience with the Agile frameworks such SCURM, LEAN and KANBAN.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development.
  • Passion to mentor and inspire others to raise the bar for everyone around them
  • Love to collaborate with peers, designing pragmatic solutions.
  • Have a cooperative, collaborative, open and flexible mindset.
  • Working knowledge in Cypress a plus.
  • Experience working in AWS Cloud a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service mindset, adept at working with distributed IT teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting and documentation skills.
