As Google’s products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google’s future – everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google’s infrastructure growth. You’ll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. The Energy Regulatory and Policy team helps Google achieve it’s goals of low-cost, clean, and reliable energy supply to its global fleet of data centers.
Google builds, owns, and operates a network of data centers in the world. Fundamental to this global computing network is a reliable, scalable, and sustainable power supply. As a Strategic Negotiator, you will be responsible for Google’s global energy portfolio, where you will work at the forefront of some of the most challenging energy and infrastructure issues of the day.
You will lead energy regulatory initiatives to ensure cost effective power suppliers maintain a path for growth of our data centers and energy-related products, and meet our ambitious carbon-free energy goals. You will help drive regional energy-related strategy development and execution, lead individual strategic initiatives and projects, and work with cross-functionally in support of Google’s energy portfolio and advocate before energy regulators and industry stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic evaluations of regulatory and policy environments in the US-West region, electricity industry trends, electric pricing/rates, stakeholder interests, and electricity institutional structures to assess risks and opportunities for Google’s data center electricity supply portfolio.
Develop and lead efforts to further market solutions to Google’s electricity supply needs, including design of regulatory and market engagement strategies as well as implementation tactics.
Work cross-functionally with others on Google’s Global Infrastructure, Product, Public Policy and other teams to develop policy and market positions and communicate to key constituencies.
Lead energy-related advocacy work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other allies to advance Google’s strategic energy interests and priorities; and
Support energy supply negotiations, working closely with site and energy Strategic Negotiators.
