We are currently seeking a User Experience designer to partner with MSR researchers in creating concepts and interaction design for RAI tools used by machine learning (ML) practitioners. This is a unique opportunity to work with the latest ML advances (e.g., large-scale language models, computer vision, etc.), create and contribute to open-source software (e.g. InterpretML, FairLearn, etc.), collaborate on Microsoft products reaching hundreds of millions of users, and publish in top academic conferences.
The is a fully remote position, open to anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
Engage with researchers and research papers to understand the science and ideas behind RAI tooling
Work with researchers to rapidly develop and test design ideas and drive a high-impact agenda operationalizing research ideas into usable and effective systems and tools.
Collaborate with product partners to integrate and test new ideas within existing frameworks and toolchains, as well as develop new end-to-end pipelines and experiences.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in user experience design or a combination of industry, graduate studies, or equivalent experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in close collaboration with researchers in academia, a software company or other high-tech environment
Proficiency in user experience design principles, methods, and techniques
Proficiency with interaction design software (e.g., Figma)
Ability to stay current on several key sub-fields of AI: Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Human-AI Collaboration, AI Ethics.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and efficiently collaborate with partners to deliver results.
Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team (including design, research, and PMs) with ambiguous and changing specifications.
A degree or publication track record in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, or Human-Computer Interaction is a major plus.
Experience designing tools for use by data scientists and/or software developers is a major plus.
Experience working on issues of ethics and responsibility in relation to AI/ML is a major plus.
