About the job
Google engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a member of an extraordinarily creative, motivated and talented team, you develop new products that are used by millions of people. We need our engineers to be versatile and passionate to take on new problems as we continue to push technology forward. If you get excited about building new things and working across discipline lines, then our team might be your next career step.
The Technical Engineering (TechEng) Sensors team in the Devices and Services Product Area (DSPA) works on enabling exciting user experiences by introducing or improving sensor technologies. The team focuses on identifying relevant technologies and works with vendors to bring them into demos ahead of product definition. Once vetted, these sensing technologies get integrated into products and the team works with a cross-functional productization organization (e.g., Product Design, Industrial Design, Software, Test, Reliability, etc.) in order to successfully launch features.
In this role, you will work in a cross-functional team to integrate technologies for rear, side button, and under display sensors. You will look for the best technologies for biometric authentication on phones and will ensure that the sensors are secure against hackers and false acceptance. You will provide end-customers the best possible experience in terms of accessibility and performance.
Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
Curate technologies for fingerprint biometric authentication and health sensors, and evaluate current biometric/health sensors. Organize New Technology Introduction (NTI) of sensors into Pixel phone systems.
Understand technical tradeoffs in technologies (e.g., capacitive, optical, ultrasonic, etc.) and create roadmaps and industry direction.
Work with module and system owners to integrate sensors into products and develop key performance parameters for sensors.
Support sensors in production of Pixel phones, set test limits and create test flows, find root cause and conduct failure analysis, and control process and sensor validation.
Optimize the customer experience/security with sensors by working with UX and Security teams to understand customer experience and maintain secure systems.
