Job summary
The Alexa News team is seeking a highly analytical, curious, resourceful, and experienced Business Intelligence Engineer to join the Alexa News Business Intelligence Team, The successful candidate will be comfortable with large datasets and will be able to break down complex problems and communicate them effectively to our customers.
A day in the life
As a member of the Alexa News BI team, you will work closely with product and software teams to uncover critical insights that will shape the future of the fast growing Alexa News Experience. You will be hands on with data, diving deep to develop metrics and visualizations that provide actionable insights for our team. You will own key data infrastructure and actively develop data pipelines to source data to enrich our reporting capabilities. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and large datasets. They will have outstanding technical and analytical capabilities and maintain a strong passion for technology.
About the team
Alexa News keeps customers informed about the world around them by seamlessly integrating the news they want most into their everyday lives. We build news experiences across multiple devices, including the Echo Family, Mobile, Fire TV, and Fire Tablet. These experiences touch every aspect of news, from lean-back (“Alexa, what’s the news?”) to specific questions (“Alexa, what’s the latest with the election?”). Our teams work in a fast-paced environment with people who are passionate about our customers, experiences, and systems.
Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
Proficiency in statistics and use of statistical applications, such as R or SPSS
Proficiency with at least one modern scripting language (e.g. Python)
Data visualization and dashboarding experience (Tableau preferred)
Proven ability to solve complex quantitative business challenges
Verbal/written communication & data presentation skills, including experience to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
