Job summary
Ring, a subsidiary of Amazon, is searching for an experienced Law Enforcement Request (LER) Specialist to join its legal team and be responsible for responding to law enforcement requests (e.g., subpoenas, search warrants) received from government agencies located in the U.S. and elsewhere. We are seeking a talented individual who can support this critical function as the business continues to grow and scale around the world.
This position can be based out of any of the Amazon Legal hub locations, including: Los Angeles, Seattle, Bay Area (San Francisco, San Jose, etc.), New York City, and HQ2 (Arlington, Washington DC).
Key job responsibilities
Evaluate and respond to law enforcement requests in a manner consistent with the privacy and security of business and customer information, in accordance with the law and with our various policies and procedures
Receive and process emergency law enforcement requests both during and outside of normal business hours, and sometimes overnight
Utilize a combination of manual and automated tools to compile information potentially responsive to a particular law enforcement request
Identify process improvements and implement new or improved tools and processes to increase efficiencies
Communicate verbally and in writing with law enforcement personnel, product, tech or product team members, outside counsel, and others
A day in the life
The LER Specialist’s principal responsibility is to ensure requests are processed professionally and expeditiously, while ensuring the privacy and security of business and customer information in accordance with the law and with our various policies and procedures. This requires great judgment and experience dealing with challenging, ambiguous and time sensitive situations. The LER Specialist must be able to interface effectively with business, tech or product team members and law enforcement personnel located in the U.S. and other countries. The LER Specialist also will be responsible for identifying process improvements and implementing new or improved tools and processes to increase efficiencies.
Prior experience with making and/or responding to law enforcement requests
Prior experience engaging with law enforcement personnel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with high-volume workflows
Strong analytical and computer skills
Excellent ability to build strong relationships with internal and external clients and customers
Ability to collaborate with colleagues
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
