Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, award winner of the Real Estate Agency Brand of the year in the 26th annual Harris Poll EquiTrend Study and a leader in the real estate industry, is currently looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in San Diego, California.
The Senior Systems Engineer researches, evaluates, and recommends the implementation of new systems and improvements to existing systems to meet company needs. Manage and prioritize projects, designing and developing systems to attain maximum efficiencies and minimize costs. Provide technical support and training to IT Support Personnel.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, plan, direct and implement projects:
- Analyze systems infrastructure data to determine inefficiencies and problems and recommend solutions/system changes. Develop detailed written documentation. Design systems that work within time and budgeting guidelines.
- Develop project plans, provide direction, and coordinate project activities.
- Complete product testing and deployment.
- Monitor computer systems and networks for viruses, malfunctions, and errors.
- Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies and software applications, perform cost/benefit analysis, and recommend appropriate technologies to company management
- Leads the configuration and maintenance of office and/or production software, adjunct support, and/or utility software, i.e., Virus malware protection, office application suites, and/or application software.
- Develop knowledge of 7X24 company business operations in order to meet the company’s information technology needs.
Perform hardware troubleshooting and installation.
- Respond to issues and questions regarding network performance, including network components, file servers, and end-user devices.
- Coordinate and assist with office equipment moves.
- Monitor existing systems.
Train IT support personnel on network management solutions. Utilize information networks to promote technology, where appropriate.
Perform any additional IT and system engineering related responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience and knowledge.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of eight-plus years of diverse technical experience in information technology.
- Experience in a senior technical, leadership, or supervisory role preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Advance knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SANs), preferably Nimble SAN.
- Engineer and implement front and back‐end servers, including LAN / WAN hardware, using Palo Alto, Meraki, Brokade and products.
- Engineer and implement solutions on a wide variety of data networks and security elements.
- Perform security engineering tasks such as implementing firewalls, establishing VPNs within multiple locations, and administration of DNS records.
- Ensure that Virus Protection and Patch Management are maintained across all server platforms.
- Advance knowledge of Windows Server systems.
- Advance knowledge of Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration.
- Advance knowledge of Group Policy design and configuration.
- Experience with disaster recovery tools, preferably Zerto Disaster Recovery software.
- Managing deployments/rollouts.
- Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues, including back bone infrastructure issues.
- Managing server virtualization technologies like VMWare Server/ESX or Microsoft HyperV/Virtual
- A solid understanding of LAN/W) or equivalent work experience required.
- Strong experience on TCP/IP architectures, routing protocols, and ability to design fail-over network platforms using BGP.
- Ability to perform 7×24 advanced tier troubleshooting, including off-hour maintenance activities, problem resolution, and on-call troubleshooting efforts.
- Strong understanding of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model with emphasis on TCP/IP architecture policies and procedures.
- Provide knowledge of current network standards, protocols, and server maintenance schedules in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Knowledge of 7x24x365 data center operations, including the ability to manage environmental operations of fault-tolerant power and HVAC requirements.

- Microsoft Certification (MCSEarge scale Citrix/Terminal Server installations.
- VMware, Microsoft, CompTIA+, or Network+ certification may be advantageous.
- Ability to perform 7×24 advanced tier troubleshooting, including off-hour maintenance activities, problem resolution, and on-call troubleshooting efforts.
