Research and publish trends and changes in the makeup and behavior of the open data community. OpenStreetMap (OSM) and other sources of data are produced through a voluntary community structure, and companies like Facebook must tread lightly when participating in these projects. This role will maintain and share a continuous awareness of open data editing norms to provide us with advance notice of changes that may require our strategy to shift, with particular attention to the global activities of humanitarian and corporate editing organizations.
Create data processing workflows adapting our internal map data pipeline’s output to the needs of outside users and partners. This role will apply their direct knowledge of OSM community norms and practices to guide our geodata publishing efforts toward maximum external utility and compatibility in partnership with collaborators outside Facebook.
Evaluate new additions to Facebook’s open data basemap. We anticipate new datasets from an expanding circle of external sources that will be evaluated and adapted for our use, often with the direct involvement of external partners. This role will determine how new data sources can be conflated with existing sources, and will work with our GIS QA and SWE teams to improve integrated pipelines.
