The Data Center Design engineering team manages the campus design from the point of interconnection with our utility providers to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems which ensure and maximize the efficiency of our compute infrastructure. This role will join a team focused on implementing the technical scope for our greenfield data center construction projects. This position is full-time.
Manage the electrical scope of multiple data center projects from high voltage utility interconnection through to building infrastructure until the server rack interface
Manage external consultants to implement project design through concept, construction documents, and construction administration
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define project electrical design criteria and manage change from project concept to substantial completion in order to meet the business and technical needs of Facebook
Collaborate with external stakeholders including general contractors and electrical trade partners
Interact and communicate Facebook requirements and needs to external partners, such as regional electric utility companies
Provide construction administrative support to the project manager and consultants with tasks including, but not limited to, responding to RFI’s, issuance of technical bulletins, review submittals and shop-drawings, and conducting source inspections at vendor factories
Develop and update the design standards and specifications for consistency and maximum system reliability
Understand, develop and update electrical sequence of operations to ensure system reliability alignment with Facebook design philosophies
Management of electrical OFCI program which includes review of BOM, spec compliance and travel to equipment manufacturing venues for Factory Witness Testing (FWT)
Participate in the data center commissioning (Integrated System Test) for greenfield data center projects
Provide and analyze energy efficient solutions to minimize power losses
Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required (Approximately 25%)
Participate in equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)
Provide instructions to design consultants, installation contractors and validate quality of installed works
Assist in management of the Design Change Management Process
Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, or related degree
Electrical Professional Engineer registration, or working towards it
Minimum of eight (8) years professional experience in electrical distribution design and construction
Knowledge of high voltage (>115kV), medium voltage (35kV, 12kV) substation design, low voltage (480V) power distribution, and UPS systems
Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NFPA70, NFPA70E, and IEEE
Familiar with construction and cost estimating processes
Knowledge of electrical safety programs
Knowledge of cross-discipline (i.e. Mechanical, Building Management Systems, Fire Alarm/Fire Protection, etc.) critical facility systems
Troubleshooting and analytical skills
Experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure
Experience communicating at all levels of the organization (up/down/across, technical/non-technical, etc.)
Electrical Professional Engineer registration
Experience on large scale electrical construction projects
Project Management Experience
Experience in data center or mission critical design and construction support
Electrical Power Management/SCADA systems
Experience performing short circuit and arc flash studies
IEEE PES or IEEE IAS Membership
