The Concept Assembly Team works with the many product and R&D teams at Facebook Reality Labs to rapidly build, scale, and maintain prototype hardware. We provide faster and more informed learnings on prototype builds ranging from a dozen to several hundred, and we then maintain that prototype hardware for internal use. It is important that we provide experience from past builds across all product lines to inform future designs for existing and emerging products and technologies. As an Electrical Technician, you would act as the liaison between our team and the cross functional partners for whom we build, repair, and modify prototypes. In this role, you will both proactively review designs related to electrical hardware as well as implement creative solutions when problems arise during a build. You must be able to communicate clearly and provide guidance to other members of the team.
Use knowledge of electrical systems and components and hands on experience to assist directly with scaled prototype assembly and small pre-production units in varying numbers, as well as electronic component addition/modification/replacement including
Use all electrical lab equipment (DMM, Oscilloscopes, etc.) to troubleshoot issues and come up with quick applicable applied solutions
Answering basic DFM questions and reaching out to support or coordinate with external vendors
Perform delicate assembly of devices, writing SOPs for a team of technicians and aid in teaching, and reviewing their work
Perform methodical troubleshooting and fault isolation on prototype hardware
Act as the electrical hardware primary point of contact for the Assembly Lab
Support established Electrical Engineers in their workflow, identifying and understanding their needs and proposing new and innovative solutions
Prioritize and balancing multiple tasks to complete a given SOW and allocating work to other Lab Technicians according to individual skillset and availability
Constantly looking for ways to upgrade and improve working environments to establish a more efficient and capable lab
Running and maintaining the lab and ensuring stock on hand meets all lab needs related to electrical hardware support and rework
Experience troubleshooting and modifying circuit boards and small electronic equipment used in consumer electronics
Experience in soldering down to 01005 size and re-working boards (including swapping and re-balling BGAs)
Experience troubleshooting and testing PCBA and FPC hardware
Experience with soldering using microscopes and camera-based inspection equipment
Communication skills to document SOWs or assembly instructions in a thorough, consistent manner. Easily convey information in a concise and accurate manner
Experience troubleshooting and testing prototypes and VR hardware
Familiarity with OrCAD/Allegro and other EE hardware design
Willingness to reach out to responsible design engineers for troubleshooting, clarification, and feedback, also propose and implement process improvements to increase production efficiency
