The Cameras and Sensors group at Facebook Reality Labs is creating camera and sensor technologies to enable compelling and immersive virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems. Our team gathers experts across fields to develop and validate camera and sensing systems for current and future AR, VR, and Portal devices. We are seeking a Rapid Prototyping Engineer interested in creating better sensing systems to help design and build novel sensor platforms.You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team exploring sensors across research and product projects. You will be responsible for designing prototypes aimed at validating and optimizing sensor performance, with an emphasis on solutions that support productization. We are looking for individuals who problem solve quickly, communicate ideas and trade-offs clearly, and work effectively with broad cross-functional teams.
Work closely with researchers and engineers to define prototype specifications
Model, build, test, and refine prototypes with full sensor system and electronic integration
Validate prototypes for compatibility and safety for user research
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
5+ years of experience in prototyping or product design
Experience building and iterating prototypes in short design cycles
Experience designing for fast manufacturing techniques (e.g machining, high-resolution 3D printing)
Wearable system design and prototyping experience
Familiarity with industrial manufacturing processes such as injection molding
Expertise in prototyping electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems
Experience designing systems for user research
