Over the last two years, our team completely rewrote the foundations of our oldest interface and re-launched Facebook to make desktop web fast, modern, and relevant again. Now, the FWP team is tasked with the ambitious goal of evolving the work we did to modernize our aging web tech stack across the entire Facebook Inc. family of apps. Teams across the company such as Ads Manager, Instagram web, and privacy center are reaching out to us to replace their old stack with the latest React web technology and deliver a significantly improved experience to their users.As a TPM on the project, you will work with multiple product and infra teams to deliver and maintain a best-in-class experience across the industry, developing and driving a strategy for performance, reliability and efficiency for the Facebook Web Platform. This is a React-based product, and we will need someone enthusiastic about learning and leveraging cutting-edge web technology. In this position, you will build the roadmap and lead the engineering execution with Facebook’s Product Foundation team. You will do that while working closely with some of the world’s most talented Product Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Researchers and Product Managers to define the long-term vision and feature requirements for the team. You’ll also provide cross-team and executive presentations to gain buy-in from key stakeholders. Product Foundation Technical Program Managers are a group of passionate individuals who go deep on learning their teams’ systems and then leverage this technical knowledge to influence and drive company-wide projects and roadmaps. Your projects will have a direct impact to our top line user engagement, and will contribute to unlocking business critical projects.New hires in this role go through the technical program manager training, engineering bootcamp, and are expected to build an overarching understanding of the whole system architecture and are embedded into the engineering and PM organization. As peers to Engineering Managers and Product Managers, Product Foundation TPMs heavily contribute to planning, negotiating cross-team dependencies, representing the customer, and are expected to shine as a valuable addition to the Facebook App organization.
Drive a company-wide initiative for the Facebook Web Platform with a focus on performance, reliability and efficiency
Define and own metrics and key performance indicators
Build subject matter expertise in your area and stay up-to-date on technological developments
Work with Product Management and Engineering teams to define your team’s strategy
Identify and drive product initiatives forward that have multiple leadership-level stakeholders and many moving parts, both short-term and long-term
Define and manage strategic initiatives to measure, monitor and optimize the performance of the web platform
Facilitate meetings to drive progress against goals and objectives, and establishing clear next steps and owners and resolving blocks that impede progress
Proactively assess risk, raise flags, and resolve issues before they become problems for the larger teams
Measure impact of programs and initiatives both qualitatively and quantitatively
Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and function
Collaborate cross-functionally with our creative team, product management, engineering, product design, user research and content strategy to ensure a smooth product development process
Determine who your customers are and communicate technical requirements to teams you depend on
Support the management team with effective team communication, proactive problem solving, information distribution
Establish communication structure to report out updates, progress and status with task forces or leads on the team so everyone understands role and expectations
Manage program communication and proactively connect with partners in other offices or disciplines to make them aware of the programs and how they can provide support
Build impactful relationships and serve as a dependable point of contact across the product design, research, and content strategy teams and cross-functional partners you’re working with in all offices
Establish and execute activities that build team culture and community, team values and trust, and help individuals tie their work back to Facebook’s mission
B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
7+ years of software engineering, systems engineering, hardware engineering, or technical product/program management experience.
Experience delivering tech programs or products from inception to delivery.
Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope.
Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership.
Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products.
Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience.
Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems.
Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones.
Web or Internet start-up environment and technical infrastructure management experience where you had to wear multiple hats.
Skilled in web technologies including JavaScript, CSS, React, browser compatibility features.
Product sense including meeting the demands of the target market, ranking feature importance, managing complexity and measuring product success.
Familiarity with metrics collection, applied data science, and presentation via dashboards.
