GFiber is an Alphabet company that brings Google Fiber and Google Fiber Webpass internet services to homes and businesses across the United States. Our growing, inclusive team is expanding as we connect more cities and people.
Role Description
At GFiber, our philosophy is to build it, automate it, and then automate what’s left. That thinking is at the core of how we approach infrastructural work at GFiber. DevOps engineers at GFiber aren’t just supporting the infrastructure – you write scripts to automate daily routine tasks as much as possible so that developers can focus more on developing business features and, in addition, manage how they build and deploy their own code. As a DevOps Lead, you will define core infrastructure strategy, identify automation needs and build for them, set up CI/CD pipelines and help engineers onboard and start using our new infrastructure platform. You’ll have a huge impact on the daily quality of GFiber’s growing suite of products and services.
You will use your knowledge of DevOps and infrastructure to promote proper engineering practice, automation strategy, and other advanced concepts across products.
At GFiber, you will be providing users with the fastest services possible while constantly trying to push the boundaries and limits. GFiber works to go the very last mile, providing fiber-optic Internet connections directly to users’ homes. You’ll be building one of the fastest networks in America so that users can experience the future of broadband because we know that your Internet connection can never be too fast enough.
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead DevOps team and be responsible for all aspects of building and releasing software projects at GFiber
- Define and develop automation and infrastructure strategies to enable SDLC at scale
- Deploy and maintain technical infrastructure
- Collaborate with vendors and/or internal customers
- Practice production, systems and services excellence
- Participate in system design and on-call activities
At a minimum we’d like you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in setting up SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, automation, troubleshooting, launching and supporting enterprise applications as an individual contributor and in a Lead capacity.
- 10 years of experience in automation coding with scripting or other appropriate languages.
- Experience in architecting and developing infrastructure projects at scale.
- Experience working in startup environments and setting up SDLC, CI/CD, and automation from scratch
It’s preferred if you have:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5 years of dedicated automation infrastructure/framework design/development and troubleshooting experience. Experience with programming in Java and/or Python.
- 5 years of demonstrated experience in representing DevOps engineering in Architecture/Design forums (e.g. SME for DevOps).
- Demonstrated experience in working with third party vendors for evaluating/testing/troubleshooting infrastructural projects
- Experience in working with SRE/Dev teams in replicating/triaging and resolving infrastructural issues
