Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience working in consumer public relations with journalists and members of the media.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with consumer placements in the media industry.
- Experience translating technical insights for non-technical audiences and developing news pitches.
- Ability to work calmly and maintain judgment in fast-paced environments and think, plan, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understand how to scale public relations via creative social media partnerships to reach consumer media.
- Knowledge of and interest in the consumer technology landscape.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
About the job
As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We’re looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.
The Consumer and Cultural Communications team oversees creative outreach, events, and experiences that reach audiences to support product and corporate priorities. Working with cultural, consumer, and international press, social influencers, and media we tell culturally relevant and engaging stories about Google’s mission, products, people, and impact.
In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to develop creative and strategic ways to introduce Google’s product family to consumer media. You will work alongside a team and partner with product PR and marketing to pitch news driven launches, seasonal moments, and angles.
We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders-and our own employees-about the benefits of Google’s products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with product PR teams to develop communications materials, with a focus on landing a wide range of placements in print and digital.
- Execute on all the elements of press outreach.
- Develop and maintain close, productive relationships with consumer and social media editors.
- Help execute and/or oversee multiple press events and briefings.
- Prepare company spokespeople for press opportunities and events, staff media interviews, and manage our external PR agency.
