Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of professional experience, including experience in software engineering.
- Experience leading geographically distributed/global teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience leading a large and distributed organization and rallying teams behind a common vision.
- Experience building organizational structures by investing in leads through coaching and accountability.
- Expertise in large software systems and maintenance, especially around libraries and system design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
About the job
In this role, you will support our teams on the east coast working on a range of topics, from libraries and codebase management to portable toolchains. We support Google developers operating on a codebase, and our future teams bring Googlers up to speed with common software development concepts and provide them with building blocks that enable Google’s large scale software development. They continuously improve the codebase through language updates, API improvements as well as optimizations that conserve tens of thousands of production machines. By pushing the envelope on large-scale refactoring tools and safety analyses, you will be responsible for keeping Google’s huge codebase maintainable and safe.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
- Build and drive a coherent vision and strategy of Google’s Libraries and Code Health efforts, both for our internal users, but also how it fits into Google’s third-party strategy.
- Be accountable for the success of Core Languages’ libraries, the basic building blocks and data formats that all Google products use.
- Measure, explain, and maximize the impact of the library and code health teams, which often span many years.
- Ensure a sustainable and inclusive work environment.
