Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of professional experience in engineering or 13 years with an advanced degree.
- People management experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- 20 years of professional experience.
- Experience with high-volume, highly available, scalable, distributed systems.
- Experience with full stack development.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms, particularly payment capabilities of these platforms.
- Ability to inspire and motivate engineers to work as a cohesive team in an inclusive environment.
- Track record of leading collaborative cross-functional initiatives from inception to launch.

Google Store aims to be the destination to bring the helpfulness of Google to life. The Commerce team is responsible for Google Store’s purchase experience.
As the Director of Engineering for the Google Store Commerce team, you’ll be responsible for defining the vision and executing the strategy for the team. You must balance business-driven product requirements with the features on the long-term product roadmap. You’ll become an expert in e-commerce, gaining insight about consumer expectations, understanding country-specific regulations, and driving the technical integration with Google’s Payments Platform.
The Director of Engineering will assess Google Store’s technical requirements, guide the selection of the relevant infrastructure technologies, and apply engineering best practices. You may also lead the evaluation of e-commerce service vendors.

Responsibilities
- Define, promote, and execute a technical vision for new commerce experiences.
- Lead the development of pre-purchase and post-purchase features for Google’s flagship e-commerce site, defining and building capabilities to sell Google’s subscription offering.
- Collaborate with the Payments team to design new capabilities required by Google Store.
- Coordinate with external technology vendors to design, build, and launch innovative commerce experiences.
- Cultivate the team’s culture to increase innovation, product quality, and execution velocity. Advocate for engineering best practices.
