Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience building private/public cloud enterprise software, including experience managing a technical team.
- Experience with open source analytics frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Presto, Flink, Kafka, etc.
- Experience with storage systems, distributed systems, or data processing.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience providing a customized, ideally anticipatory, approach to the user’s needs to ensure a seamless solution.
- Experience motivating others, creating a shared vision through a variety of approaches, inspiring team members, and communicating strategy both internally and externally.
- Expertise in building reliable, scalable cloud products.
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, making organizationally beneficial decisions, while fostering a culture of individual mobility and growth.
- Ability to quickly and effectively respond to changing circumstances and adjust solutions in a strategic way to remain fluid, agile and impactful.
- Ability to balance the need to revolutionize versus the need to evolve.
About the job
As Engineering Director, BigQuery Processing, Google Cloud, you will be responsible for the analytics engine powering BigQuery and Omni, along with the advanced analytics extension to power machine learning (BigQuery ML), Natural Language (Data QnA), Search, Geo-Spatial, and Operational Analytics. Together, these areas cover the entire life-cycle of data analytics, covering traditional data warehousing workloads and expanding this capability to enable analyzing virtually any kind of data, federating to other data processing systems, across regions and clouds – from the SQL language.
You will set and communicate a clear technical direction that supports our business goals, drive standards for engineering excellence that lead to scale and customer satisfaction, and effectively collaborate with other leaders across various functions and execution areas. Responsibilities
- Recruit and manage a distributed team of leaders and high-profile individual contributors, mentoring and coaching team members to develop their skill set, and shaping the team vision, strategy, and goals.
- Translate customer requirements and business objectives to a clear vision for the organization, focusing on customer needs and use-cases when making decisions.
- Partner across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to align products and businesses towards a unified customer experience, working with Product Management and Design teams to determine what to build and why.
- Participate in design, architectural, and operational decisions, driving software engineering projects from definition, to delivery and maintenance, maintaining high standards and best practices for engineering excellence.
- Encourage and facilitate collaboration with other engineering and cross-functional teams, communicating and collaborating with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
