About the job
Our team’s goal is to make Google’s automatic speech recognition (ASR) technologies work great for everyone on the planet. Our team is a mix of linguists and program managers, and we work closely with engineering and research teams in the wider speech group, addressing lots of exciting, unprecedented internationalization challenges. We train ASR models, analyze their performance along many dimensions, collaborate with operations teams to get even better data, deploy the models to production, and invest in processes and dashboards to track our progress and drive it forward. And beyond the languages we already support, we also work on extending ASR to even more languages.
In this role, you will use your linguistic skills to help Google’s Speech team improve our automatic speech recognition models across language varieties.
Responsibilities
- Train, evaluate, and deploy automatic speech recognition models across language varieties
- Write and maintain machine-readable grammars to inject linguistic knowledge
- Provide linguistic requirements for data collection/annotation projects to improve coverage and quality of the data going into our ASR systems
- Synthesize linguistic research from many fields into easily digestible, actionable recommendations for improving our ASR systems for everyone
