Minimum qualifications:
- 10 years of experience with 3-5 axis computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
- Experience with CAD software Solidworks.
- Experience with MasterCam, Surfcam, Cimatron or AutoDesk.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with CNC Lathe and electrical discharge machining (EDM).
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Ability to be customer and detail-oriented, with effective problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.

Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google’s continued growth.
With your technical expertise, you lead and manage projects, develop product and process improvements, provide consultation to others and help facilitate training and development.
As a Machinist, you will deliver a variety of prototype models conceptual models, engineering breadboards, and mechanisms at a consistent level of quality and speed. You will visualize a 3-dimensional part from mechanical drawings, hand sketches, or computer-aided-design (CAD) files. You will also have the conceptual development and the proficient use of various hand tools, mills, and lathes.

Responsibilities
- Act as a mentor for shop personnel, providing recommendations when necessary, working collaboratively with teams to find solutions to functional, aesthetic issues, and taking projects from beginning stage to a finished product.
- Utilize internal resources to generate final prototype through rapid prototyping, soft goods, paint and prototype while communicating with engineers/designers, providing feedback that would enhance product development.
- Drive innovation through idealization of concepts that will expand the brand experience, product function/performance, manufacturing efficiency or process improvements.
- Maintain the appearance and function of the design studio through regular cleaning, providing operating instruction to team members, and following all corporate access and safety policies.
