Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Experience assembling scientific instruments as well as using test and measurement equipment
- Experience using Linux
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with hardware test development in a research and development setting
- Experience managing technicians in a laboratory environment
- Experience with Python
- Ability to operate and test vacuum, gas handling, and cryogenic systems
- Ability to create test plans for electronics and cable assemblies

The Quantum AI team’s mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Google AI Quantum is building novel systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world’s largest computers at certain classes of problems.
The Quantum Hardware Test Engineer (QHTE) will execute and lead assembly, installation, test, and first-level troubleshooting activities for the Quantum AI team’s fleet of quantum computing systems. This role primarily supports the fleet operations and test responsibilities of the Quantum Systems Engineering (QSE) team, enabling the continuous evolution of physical configurations on both research and production systems.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the installation, buildout, and testing of quantum computing systems
- Oversee the reconfiguration of existing quantum computing systems
- Monitor and troubleshoot cryogenic and electronic subsystems
- Collaborate with research scientists, systems engineers, and technicians to develop assembly, test, and other procedures for the quantum computing fleet
