Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Professional compilers experience or an interest in compilers.
  • Web technologies experience and an understanding of Web standards.
  • Ability to build consensus among stakeholders.

V8 is the open source virtual machine in Chrome which powers the Web’s execution languages, JavaScript and WebAssembly.

The V8 Standards team aims to make web apps faster and more capable by driving innovation in the JavaScript and WebAssembly standards. Our work spans the entire feature lifecycle, including design, prototyping, experimentation, specification, standardization, and implementation.

Your work will have impact not only on Chrome’s users, but also on Node.js (which embeds V8) across the entire Web ecosystem, as the specifications we work on are implemented in other Web browsers and JS/Wasm engines.

Additional Information

(Colorado only*) Minimum salary of $142,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

  • Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.


Responsibilities

  • Work with partners, developers, and other members of the community to identify missing features/gaps/opportunities for improvement.
  • Engage with Web standards groups through regular meetings, Github discussions, and other open forums.
  • Design, specify, implement, test, and ship WebAssembly and JavaScript features in V8 and Chrome.
  • Coordinate design and implementation work with subsystem experts in the broader V8 and Chrome Web Platform teams.
  • Ensure JavaScript and WebAssembly features are well-integrated with each other and with the Web platform.
