Google’s software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
In this role, you will develop voice-first conversational AI experiences that are explicitly different from today’s query-oriented voice assistant interactions. You will do engineering necessary to bring functioning prototypes into user studies. You will understand both the limitations of the current stack and the potential for future development. Prototypes will be built on a new stack that integrates large language models such as LaMDA, privacy-preserving machine learning, and on-device audio.
Additionally, you’ll build new prototypes on a variety of form factors, from Android to hearables. Above all, a creative perspective, long view, and willingness to fail fast, are necessary to achieve impact on a multi-year timeline.
At Google, our users come first, and the Systems Infrastructure team is at the heart of that promise. We build the technologies that transform the way we think about doing business. Whether working on our cloud systems, researching the latest in computer technology or keeping Google’s internal systems humming, Googlers and users alike rely on us to keep things running. We’re back-end experts: protecting your privacy and ensuring your security.
