Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience in camera/optical engineering for consumer electronics.

Experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.

Preferred qualifications:
Experience in optical sensing systems for depth measurement.

Experience in optical characterization methodology and instrumentation.

Experience using and knowledge of Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, optical testing, and validation.

Understanding of imaging systems and opto-mechanical system assembly and packaging, tolerance analysis, stray light analysis.

Ability to perform comprehensive optical system performance characterization and failure analysis.

Excellent project/vendor management and leadership skills.

About the job

In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams to build the Pixel phone cameras’ optical components which integrate both Google’s computational photography algorithms and hardware technologies.

The Camera Hardware team inside the Technical Engineering Imaging and Vision group is responsible for developing camera hardware for Google’s consumer products. As a Camera Optics Engineer, you will drive definition, design, development, and integration of camera optics for Google’s consumer products.

You will have the responsibility of owning the entire lifecycle of the project including technology and product development with third-party vendors. You will define design, testing and qualification plans for the camera optics/ambient light sensor at different stages of the development. You will also validate optical parts at different product development stages at the lab and drive the third-party vendors to improve product performance.

Responsibilities

Design, characterize, and integrate optical components (e.g., lenses, optical filters, illuminators, ambient light sensors, etc.) into optical sensing and imaging systems.

Devise test and validation plans of the optical components and define engineering performance specifications for these components.

Drive optical component suppliers to co-develop high quality optical components through the entire product development lifecycle from prototype to mass production.

Drive advanced metrology development for optical components.

Travel to vendor facilities as required.
