About the job
By its very nature, the Assistant is deployed across a variety of devices, including some with excellent device processing capabilities. Our approach to scale a growing variety of device types is to invest in a unified client platform that solves the common problems across devices while providing levers and well-lit paths to solve for the uniqueness among device types.
In this role, you will be leading engineering teams across several Google sites and time zones and aligning them to build and maintain Android and non-Android-based client platforms for Assistant. Your work is centered on how device teams integrate the Assistant across devices and how users experience the Assistant. Technical problems in this space cut across the core conversation engine, audio managing, connectivity across devices and server, and device context. The challenge includes deploying to devices enabling teams to iterate and build products faster while safeguarding and improving reliability and user experience.
As Director, Engineering, Assistant Client Infrastructure, you will develop an understanding of the Assistant’s product roadmap and translate that into a clear goal and strategy. You will establish robust partnerships with foundational technical teams such as Speech and Natural Language Understanding. You’ll be responsible for demonstrating thought leadership within the domain and using your influence to drive technical choices and infrastructure strategies while supporting the organization and its systems. Your team will look to you for guidance, motivation, and development as you work together to implement your strategy and find solutions to ambiguous challenges.
