Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of experience in engineering and technical innovation within cross-functional engineering environments.
Experience providing technical guidance and enabling teams to deliver services to stakeholders.
Experience in technical innovation within engineering environments and ideation of technology and mobile/distributed systems.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in the life cycle of device software data rollouts at scale, promoting product excellence and collaboration.
Experience with mobile/device development, constraints, and network conditions.
Experience with scalable systems on distributed systems, data, and concurrency.
Experience communicating in both high level abstractions and tactical detail, and ability to relate the two.
Understanding of data privacy, security, and efficiency tradeoffs.
Ability to improve and clarify the data landscape on devices to support product growth and user trust.
About the job
Core Data is responsible for data at Google, working with teams across the company to serve their data needs. The Core Data product suite offers data management solutions, infrastructure, and foundations for Google products operating at planet-scale, including flagship products such as Search, Ads, YouTube, and Geo.
The Mobile Data Infrastructure team within Core Data builds and manages Infrastructure components and libraries that allow secure, efficient access to data on our varied devices, including within the Android Operating System. The MDI team has an opportunity to create the core building blocks that enable easy, secure, and private data access across our device portfolio.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a growing engineering organization responsible for the Mobile Data Infrastructure team and deliver on Core Data’s strategy to build a more equitable and inclusive organization.
Drive the next generation of data building blocks for devices at Google, improving performance, security, and efficiency of data usage for Google mobile products.
Set the roadmap and OKRs for the team, balancing customer needs, usability, and functionality while evolving the team’s technical direction and ensuring that objectives are aligned with Core Data.
Increase adoption of mobile data infrastructure and support convergence and compatibility of device infrastructure throughout Google while fostering innovation and setting an example for production and product excellence.
Work with internal customers and partners to ensure our Mobile Data Infrastructure is reliable and is set up for future needs.
