Experience in reasoning and quantifying relative impacts and risks of technical work that involve multiple organizations.
Experience in leadership and the ability to influence and drive consensus on technical design and approach across diverse opinions.
Experience in data management, governance and protection in a regulated industry, and experience in lifecycle data rollouts at scale, promoting product excellence and collaboration.
Experience in technical innovation within cross-functional engineering environments.

Core Data is responsible for data at Google, working with teams across the company to serve their data needs. The Core Data product suite offers data management solutions, infrastructure, and foundations for Google products operating at planet-scale, including flagship products such as Search, Ads, YouTube, and Geo.
The Director of Engineering of User Data for Data Discovery and Protection (DDP) will lead the engineering team to drive strategy and execution of User Data management, governance and protection, one of the key initiatives for the organization. As the Engineering lead, you will engage with all aspects of the User Data domain, leading the team to design and build solutions to manage, govern, and protect user data while meeting compliance by default.
You will partner with leaders across Google engaged in the privacy and trust domain and collaborate to evolve the User Data domain, and partner with various teams to influence and design solutions for intuitive privacy features that enable customers to keep data safe, in control of privacy experience, and deliver benefits of the data while adhering to compliance requirements.
This is an impactful role that calls for an engineering leader who is well versed in both data and privacy-based technologies and able to be engaged in the entire product lifecycle from design through to deployment and production operations at enormous scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $256,000-$384,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
Develop and evolve the strategic and technical direction for meeting compliance and building well-lit paths to manage and protect user data at Google.
Partner with compliance and privacy teams, reviewing designs, participating in and resolving issues, guiding discussions, and driving engineering investments.
Set the roadmap and OKRs for User Data with effort towards balanced development in compliance, performance, efficiency, usability, and functionality. Establish and drive innovative approaches to anticipate and address problems in trust and privacy for user data.
Provide leadership in areas that will help solve technical problems and help managers of associated teams understand the technical issues contributing to challenges. Grow future leaders by serving as a mentor.
