Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
15 years of experience building infrastructure systems
Experience in storage systems, database systems, and/or infrastructure systems
Experience with distributed systems and/or security
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree or PhD
Ability to communicate with leads and evaluate their technical positions
Ability to drive career development, creating an environment in which junior engineers can grow appropriately in a challenging technical area
Ability to lead an organization to high standards of metrics-validated engineering excellence
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to speak and write in English fluently, representing and promoting complex technical concepts across multiple stakeholders
Excellent product sensibility, with capability to drive key product innovations or opportunities
About the job
As an Engineering Director on the Infrastructure Storage (InfraStorage) team, you will have ownership of the foundational internal file systems at Google. In this role, you will use technical expertise and visionary capabilities to ensure file systems remain a key differentiator for Google. You will manage and grow a team of engineering managers, partner and drive the vision and strategy for file systems, and ensure all Google bytes stay safe.

Responsibilities
Manage leadership and service ownership of Google’s internal distributed file systems, each of which is unique in the industry and a key differentiator for Google.
Build an environment of deep respect, in which each team member feels included.
Drive cross-functional alignment with other layers of the stack.
Develop a strategy for the long-term vision of which files should go into which services and which APIs should be exposed to the company. Drive solid delivery in a difficult and high-risk space.
Nurture and grow the existing talent, while attracting additional storage and distributed systems talent.
