About the job
Google’s custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you’re sure it meets Google’s standards of quality and reliability.
In this role, you will use technical expertise to execute test plans for highly complex platforms (e.g., validating the interaction of multiple pieces of equipment at the networking and subsystem levels), and diagnose highly complex hardware or software issues using knowledge of component design characteristics. You will also consult on testing issues for vendors and manufacturers.
Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
Be a part of a cross-functional team that supports several engineering hardware design groups. Work separately while also taking direction from multiple sources (e.g., lab managers, hardware engineers, designers, and technicians).
Work to apply unique hardware modifications to prototypes, perform design and/or modification hardware validation, and compile documents and test data into various documentation formats, presenting to Engineering teams.
Perform daily inventory tracking of all electrical lab equipment within labs. Maintain maintenance and calibration tracking for all electrical lab equipment.
Manage and drive lab expenses for supplies, equipment, and capital expenditures. Enforce lab safety and compliance policies.
Assist with shipping, receiving, and equipment logistical duties for the labs. Lift and assist in moving heavier test equipment.
