As the Engineering Director for Query Processing, you will deliver the SQL query engine for all of Google, through supporting the capabilities of the core businesses, including Ads, Payments, Finance, and teams across the company.
F1 Query is a distributed query processing system built from the ground up. As the leader of this team, you will help solve fundamental, technical challenges of data processing and core data infrastructure at Google. You will balance the short-term goals of meeting partner, customer, and collaborator requirements with long-term, strategic goals around innovation and investment. With this breadth of scope, you will manage priorities from a huge surface area (all of Google), critical customers (such as the Ads organization), and specific use cases (everything from pipeline processing to interactive analysis and user-facing application data serving).
As the new Director of Engineering for the F1 Query team, you will play a critical role in how data gets processed at Google, and in doing so, you will contribute to the core businesses and the company’s overall mission.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
Lead a multi-site team composed of exceptional engineering talent.
Collaborate with other engineering and influence product management and technical program management teams to deliver query processing for Google.
Manage complex systems and infrastructure migrations impacting most Googlers or many Google products.
Own a multi-year roadmap that incorporates stakeholder priorities and charts out an ambitious plan for query processing (e.g., strategically consolidate query processing at Google, updating the query platform with minimal disruption, etc.).
Build strategic partnerships across Google and influence Core Data strategy at the VP-level.
