About the job
The Chrome-Fuchsia team has the mission of bringing the power of the web platform to Fuchsia (https://fuchsia.dev), an exciting OS focused on security, updatability, and performance. We achieve this by making Fuchsia a first-class platform for Chrome’s codebase, ensuring that everything Chrome has driven on the web, modern standards-driven APIs, a focus on stability and performance, frequent updates to keep users secure, and capable of powering apps and content on Fuchsia.
Being at the intersection of Chrome and Fuchsia is exciting. Our team works across the Chromium code base and is also involved in broad areas (e.g., graphics, networking). We work closely with the Fuchsia team and have a front row seat as we build a microkernel-based OS.
One of the key goals for the team has been to bring Google’s existing smart display products (e.g. Nest Hub) from Linux/CastOS to Fuchsia. This initiative requires not just a significant focus on performance, memory, storage given the hardware platform, but 100% compatibility with all existing Cast apps (which essentially run on Chrome). It’s an exciting application of the universality of the web platform to enable an in-field upgrade between radically different operating systems.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead this effort and focus on new initiatives for new form factors in the future.
