Preferred qualifications:
PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience with a focus on experimental work.
Experience in 2 or more of the following computing/design environments: MATLAB, Python, LabView, R, JavaScript, C/C++, CAE/CAD, EDA.
Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for work, including international travel.
About the job
The Failure Analysis and Materials lab within Devices & Services Product Integrity Engineering conducts investigations into failed materials, components, assemblies, and products during development, production, and use for multiple groups within Devices & Services. The lab uses its state of the art facilities and equipment to study the characteristics of materials and their failure mechanisms. Lab personnel also work closely with product teams and other cross-functional teams to drive corrective actions within the company and within the supply chain.

Responsibilities
Investigate failures, identify root cause, and work to drive corrective actions with product teams within Hardware and within Google
Develop novel methods for analysis using in-house equipment which reduce cost and improve turnaround time of investigations
Use materials expertise to help select materials and specify testing for materials qualification
Work with partners/vendors/internal teams to develop excellent materials for product teams
Be responsible for laboratory and analytical equipment
