Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- 5 years of experience working with in-house patent/licensing departments
- Experience with patents and patent license agreements
- Experience working with cross-functional teams of business stakeholders, attorneys, and analysts
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in contract, program, and/or project management
- Experience in non-disclosure agreement (NDA) negotiation and management
- Knowledge of data operations with spreadsheets or other database tools
- Ability to innovate on patent-related matters

Google’s Global Patents team (GPT) is a team of innovators and attorneys who are passionate about future technologies and excited about resolving their ensuing legal challenges. As a member of the GPT, you will have the opportunity to work on all operational aspects of patent transactions and external patent engagements.
In this role, you will serve as a Patent Legal Specialist for the Strategic Engagements and Transactions (SET) team. As a member of the SET team, you will leverage Google’s portfolio to obtain freedom of action for Google, reduce patent risk for the company through strategic engagements, develop and participate in programs that minimize patent risks to Google’s ecosystems, provide patent-related transactions support for our Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) teams, define and execute our strategy for standards licensing and modeling, drive patent acquisitions and divestitures, and ultimately enable Google to bring products to the world.
You will report directly to the Head of the SET and will work with many different functions at Google, including Engineers, Product teams, Finance, and other Legal team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide project management and operational support to the SET team.
- Oversee and manage inbound and outbound license agreement compliance, including reporting and royalty obligations.
- Perform legal and business research with respect to patent engagements.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams (e.g., Compliance, Legal, Operations, Litigation, and Finance) in support of the SET team’s objectives.
