About the job
Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global – and growing – infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google’s bottom line.
Our team is responsible for supplier development and ongoing performance management to Google’s technology and business needs. As a Manager, you will manage a team in driving collaboration to develop and execute Google’s sourcing strategy for our CPU and GPU hardware across multiple internal organizations, in support of our infrastructure deployment that powers Google’s services. You will be a key part of a Supply Chain team that drives continuous improvements and ensures operational excellence in support of Google’s growth. In this role, you will lead, communicate, and partner effectively across multiple functions.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Responsibilities
Lead a commodity management team in support of our CPU and GPU sourcing and supply chain objectives, including supplier selection for new deployments and executive supplier business reviews.
Manage supplier relationships and performance in technology alignment, cost, quality, and delivery and implement supply chain improvements.
Develop and execute commodity strategies through partnership with Google engineering and other commodity management teams.
Conduct partnership and supplier discussions including comprehensive agreements.
Define cost drivers, develop cost models, and establish cost analysis.
