About the job
Our computational challenges are so big and unique we can’t just buy our hardware, we’ve got to make it ourselves. Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google’s continued growth.
As a key member of the team, you design and evaluate systems, identify product requirements, prepare system-related documentation and contribute to research and project planning.
As a Product Design Engineer you will help to work on the shape of electronics by balancing comfort, performance, and appearance. You will work on a team that balances these concepts in an innovative and harmonious design that complements and enables the technology. You are comfortable working on the borders of risk, actively communicating among a team to establish a design direction, creating prototypes that prove it, and working to scale that prototype.
Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
Design for function, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
Manage the subsystem and/or individual consumer electronics part designs from concept to production.
Work with global manufacturing suppliers and partners of subsystems and drive individual part design from concept to production. Travel to meet with suppliers.
Build and troubleshoot prototypes, analyze results of reliability testing, iteratively improve the design, and bring to production.
Create and publish detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for your design models, search out and select materials, components, and sub-systems for product launch.
