About the job
As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of concepts. You’ll work in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to bring parts through to manufacturing.
You will help reinvent the shape optics, electronics, and acoustics by balancing performance and appearance. You’ll work on a team that balances these to complement and enable the technology.
You will be comfortable working on the borders of risk, actively communicating among a team to establish a design direction, creating prototypes to validate it, and working to scale those prototypes. You’ll bring mechanical engineering expertise, as well as familiarity with system integration and fast-paced consumer electronics development lifecycles. You will work with cross-functional teams in Operations, Industrial Design, Human Factors, Optics, and Electrical Engineering to define and deliver an outstanding product.
Project Starline from Google combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together, even when they’re cities (or countries) apart. Imagine looking through a sort of magic window, and through that window, you see another person, life-size and in three dimensions.
As part of the Project Starline team, your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products as you apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.
Responsibilities
Drive part and module designs from concept to production, focusing on balancing function, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cosmetic requirements.
Create and publish detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for design models, including materials selection and manufacturing methods.
Work with local and global manufacturing suppliers to drive design forward.
Travel to meet with suppliers and support manufacturing during product development stages.
Build and troubleshoot prototypes, analyze results of reliability testing, iteratively improve the design, and bring products to production.
