QualificationsManufacturingMechanical engineeringGD&TIndustrial engineeringBachelor’s degree
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with yield improvements and cycle time reductions for high-volume, high-complexity parts, with premium fit and finish.
Knowledge of common surface finishing operations (e.g., painting, plating, PVD, anodizing, polishing, lapping, sandblasting) and mechanical bonding processes (e.g., snap and press fits, ultrasonic welding, glueing, application of pressure sensitive/liquid adhesives).
Understanding of cosmetic quality standards (e.g., defining and measuring color, specifying and measuring surface finish, creating cosmetic defect catalogs, establishing grading limits).
Ability to proactively influence the product design process by proposing Design for X (DFX) improvements with associated data.
About the job
Google’s custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall Technical Operational readiness in the supply chain. This team works closely with suppliers and design teams in assessing process technologies for modules. You will develop manufacturing processes and establish process capability to consistently deliver quality products in Mass Production. You’ll drive technical and operational issues for material, process, fixtures, and equipment.
Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user’s interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people’s lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product/Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability, and Product Operations.
Establish reasonable specifications, validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), and drive process improvements in partnership with Tooling and Manufacturing Process engineers.
Work with Reliability Engineering to develop reliability test plans for manufacturing processes. Establish outgoing/incoming quality control (OQC/IQC) processes, ensure correlation between sites, and discover root cause of measurement discrepancies in IQC.
Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp.
Provide design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews of mechanical parts and make recommendations to Product Design to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield, and cost.
