Excellent judgment in sensitive matters and skill at identifying and mitigating strategic risk.

The Legal Investigations Support (LIS) team handles requests for user data received from Government agencies, courts, and parties in civil litigation. LIS handles a high-volume of these legal requests, processing them through internal tools based on complex internal policy and workflows.
This team needs people who respect confidentiality, and are sensitive to legal requirements and user privacy laws. LIS aims to strike the best balance between competing forces like legal compliance, Google’s values and policies, and users’ rights and freedoms, in order to improve the law, reduce risk, and keep Google running.
As the Legal Investigations Support (LIS) Team Lead, you are key to the success of your team of reports. You are ready to understand the work at a detailed level, create and improve processes, maintain records, conduct legal research, and coordinate communications across the team.
The Legal Investigations Support Team Lead manages the day-to-day productivity and career development of your team of policy specialists who are on the front lines of international criminal and civil legal requests for user data. This team administers the processes and queues for these requests and manages escalations to internal counsel. You are dedicated to team culture and mentorship. Specifically, you will also need to embrace mentoring and developing junior team members and new leaders at Google.

Responsibilities
Directly manage a team of policy specialists within Legal Investigations Support (LIS).
Understand your team’s work at a detailed level, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development while encouraging innovative solutions.
Track team metrics and manage operational goals for individual team members.
Analyze and respond to domestic criminal legal requests for user data and participate in on-call pager rotation, responding to emergency law-enforcement requests.
Support escalations and facilitate communication of process and policy to internal stakeholders. Assist in designing, implementing, and documenting new policies and procedures that drive more efficiency, improve quality, and/or mitigate risk.
