5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java) and SQL.

3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing strategic projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Experience with Distributed Computing/Distributed Systems.

Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

Experience with distributed databases, distributed storage, query processing, database internals, and/or coding in C++.

With your extensive technical expertise you take initiative to independently design and implement new systems, designing, implementing, and testing multiple features with little or no direction from tech lead or manager. You collaborate with key stakeholders to determine future direction of work.

In this role, you will lead a team of Engineers to develop and improve query execution components to support Business Intelligence and Reporting workloads within Spanner, unlocking new workloads in Cloud Spanner and streamlining others.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$276,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

Own the charter to improve all aspects of distributed query execution and enable both Google product areas and Google Cloud Platform customers to run business intelligence and reporting workloads directly in Spanner.

Lead the efforts to define and execute our strategy for addressing complex technical challenges in key areas, including our strategy for bringing analytic workloads to Spanner and making Spanner more developer-friendly by reducing the manual effort required for efficient query execution.

Hire and develop top talent, work closely with the rest of the global Spanner leadership team to ensure goal alignment, craft the strategy for the future, and own the Key Performance Indicators for the team’s focus areas.
