About the job
Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.
Google’s Cloud Developer Relations (Cloud DevRel) Content Portfolio team is seeking a Technical Content Strategist. Our mission is to create a compelling and well-architected information experience that educates and empowers users on Google Cloud — driving adoption, growth, and retention. Our values are customer focus, collaboration, mutual respect, humility, creativity, quality, and responsibility.
In this role, you will have a significant leadership role and influence on documentation development in several product areas and collaborate closely with executive business partners. You will define a holistic content strategy for a variety of user experiences or multimedia approaches by defining the problem, articulating the vision, setting goals, helping implement solutions, and measuring effectiveness.
You will assist and mentor Technical Writers and Product Managers to identify the top topics in their product areas and design use cases with supporting assets such as text, tutorials, and videos. You will collaborate with information architects to ensure that our information architecture improves usability, discovery, and access for users.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Responsibilities
Evolve a content strategy to create a well-lit path for Google Cloud Platform developers across multiple user journeys through analytics of content usage, customer engagements, feedback from executive business partners, competitor analysis, and research of next-generation technologies.
Collaborate with other teams to define the front-end and back-end requirements that are needed to evolve content strategy.
Work closely with the other Content Strategists on the Content Portfolio team to create organization-wide strategic programs.
Contribute to strategic initiatives around authoring processes, content management, content navigation, and content taxonomy.
Audit the existing content in your product area, perform gap analysis, and determine how to present new and existing content in compelling ways to customers.
