Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM Research at Albany Nanotech is currently seeking a skilled System Administrator with experience in Linux/Windows and Solaris to join a dynamic IT team that holds responsibility for a wide range of hardware and software. The role requires a background in building IT systems from the ground up, as well as experience in Storage Area Networking (SAN) and SAN Storage (Storwize Series hardware). The ability to configure users and software on Linux and Windows Servers is a must, as well as an understanding of account and file system permissions on the same.

The DevOps position is part of a team that provides 24×7 support to the fab on critical systems that run the fab, and this role will be part of an on-call rotation of support. Additionally, the team also supports the deployment and debugging of personal workstations for the users that are seated in Albany. The ability to work with other admins as well as end users to debug issues, solve problem and document the solutions of the issues on our ticket system are a must. Strong communication and teaming skills are requirements for this role. A successful candidate for this position will be a self-starter that is excited to work in fast-paced, continually evolving IT environment with the ability to keep an eye towards security as well as usability by the engineers that we will work with. Albany has many systems installed that are critical to our 24×7 fab operations, and this position requires the ability to help support critical systems; managing them to ensure optimal uptime and accurate data transfer and collection.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Strong computer science background with ability to drive architecture changes and debug existing systems and applications. (2+ years)
  • IT Development in one or more of the following languages/shells: Python, Perl, Java, C++ (2+ years)
  • IT Development/Deployment experience in one or more of the following Operating Systems: Linux, Solaris, Windows, Window Server (4+ years)

  • Storage support experience
  • SAN configuration/management experience
  • Hardware Debug Skills
  • Systems Deployment experience
  • Ansible Experience
  • End user deployment experience
  • Cisco Configuration Experience.
