Your Role and Responsibilities
You will work closely with the Hybrid Cloud External Communications Leader to build visibility of IBM’s hybrid cloud leadership and work with key strategic partners, a key growth driver of the company’s revenue.
This role requires a deep understanding of technology, including a background in cloud technology. Hybrid cloud is the key to driving innovation and delivering enhanced, secure customer experiences. The Hybrid Cloud External Relations specialist must have strong storytelling and media relations skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into stories that resonate with all audiences – all through the lens of digital transformation and hybrid cloud.
This role requires creativity in highlighting IBM’s work with clients to deliver faster, frictionless experiences. It requires a candidate that can leverage client wins and partner news, thought leadership, industry trends and news cycles to identify earned media opportunities and craft timely, interesting and relevant pitches. Using your strong storytelling skills and your extensive experience working with the technology media and influencers, you will secure media engagements, including phone, podcast and video interviews, bylined articles, media tours and informational briefings.
To be successful, you must come to work with a ‘sleeves rolled up’ attitude and possess strong writing and presentation skills. You should demonstrate the ability to work closely with business partners and other communications colleagues, as well as actively cultivate mutually-beneficial relationships with media and other influencers. You must be comfortable working independently as well as with large cross-company, multi-disciplinary and global teams in order to accomplish goals.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted communications advisor to IBM’s hybrid cloud business leaders
- Develop and execute earned media communications campaigns
- Develop written storytelling content, including pitches, blog posts, press announcements, social-media posts and other external communications
- Identify, advise on and execute high visibility executive speaking opportunities
- Focus on telling the IBM hybrid cloud leadership story through industry trade publications and beat reporters at top tier outlets
- Collaborate with business and marketing team leads on content creation, new product and thought leadership initiatives, to drive integrated earned media communications programs
- Partner with corporate communications colleagues, geographic communications teams, internal communications experts, social media colleagues and others to maintain cohesive messaging in support of IBM’s global strategy
- Monitor, measure and report periodically on media coverage, reach and share-of-voice resulting from outreach
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 8+ years in media relations, communications or similar experience
- Experience in cloud technology and/or financial services media relations
- Demonstrated writing ability
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience working in a PR agency or in-house communications team
- Demonstrated success working with business partners to achieve communications outcomes supporting company priorities
- Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technologies, products and market challenges
- Experience with media databases, measurement platforms, press release distribution services and media monitoring services
- Experience working with PR agency partners and providing direction to agency team

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
