Your Role and Responsibilities
Technical consultant to clients, IBM sales teams, and/or IBM BusinessPartners. Understand the client’s business requirements, technical requirements, and/or competitive landscape. Provide Z technical sales support which may include: collaborating with IBM sales teams to define, design, and detail the technical aspects and feasibility of proposed solutions; deliver Proof of Concept; develop and deliver technical education; support critical situations; design solutions; and answer technical questions. When engaged for a specific opportunity or project, they are responsible for the technical accuracy of the proposed Z solution.
Skill 1
Understands and applies knowledge of System z hardware capabilities and solutions. Understands and leverages appropriate methods and tools of the HW Technical Specialist profession to attain business unit objectives in selling System z solutions to customers. This includes the capability to leverage configuration and pricing tools. Demonstrates the required proficiency levels for technical skills in the area of specialty and applies those skills in selling System z solutions.
Skill 2
Advises and/or provides guidance to team members (Project managers, I/T Architects, Sales Specialists, and other Technical Specialists, among others) in new and complex System z capabilities and offerings. Actively advises the sales team, IBM management, and customers through the appropriate use of demonstrations, Proofs of Technology, Proofs of Concept, and services.
Skill 3
Team and collaborate effectively with IBM team members (TechLine, NA Staff, Worldwide Sales, Lab, and IBMers from other functional areas) to create strategic client solutions on z Systems that influence our clients buying behavior and strategic direction.
Skill 4
Technically proficient at advising clients on the technical and business benefits of System z, including best practices as it relates to administration, performance tuning, recovery, resource utilization considerations, applications, etc.

Demonstrates dedication to every client’s success and is accountable for delivering a superior client experience in every transaction/engagement, sensing and responding to client needs and issues, and focusing on building a long-term relationship that will positively impact IBM’s business growth.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Use technical/business acumen to understand the client’s business requirements, technical requirements, and competitive landscape.
- Work with the extended technical team and sales teams to deliver effective Demonstrations, Proof of Concept (POC), Proof of Technology (POT) events supporting the IBM Z platform and its associated solutions.
- Actively engage with clients to develop trust and credibility by building confidence throughout the sales process, supporting technical escalations, delivering educational capability updates, and solving business problems to create an exceptional customer experience.
- Work with IBM Business Partners to supplement their existing skills, provide skills transfer to partners and market technical specialists and provide direction in engaging with IBM resources.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan. Your actual base pay plus incentive opportunity will be determined by the Incentive Plan assigned to you.
