You:
As a principal DevSecOps Architect at Octo, you will work in an agile environment to support a large portfolio of large-scale production applications. You will provide technical oversight, ensure architecture and development standards compliance, and maintain a technical roadmap and vision in cooperation with government leadership. You will lead the delivery of high-quality open-source development and cloud infrastructure to maintain mission-critical applications. You are an engineer who is comfortable working side by side with engineers, product managers, designers, and government customers, making decisions together to quickly deliver valuable working software to users. You are comfortable providing leadership and guidance to less-experienced team members and collaborating with other senior members of your team. You have a passion for high-quality, reliable, and maintainable code and infrastructure. You are agile and retrospective, and not afraid to identify what we are doing wrong so we can fix it, and what we are doing right so we can improve upon it.

Program Mission:
The program you will be supporting has a mission to provide development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) support to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) with a focus on building and maintaining complex, large-scale, Internet-facing web applications and IT systems in an AWS cloud environment. The team utilizes open-source technologies, agile project management practices, and modern DevSecOps delivery to support systems critical to the services provided by USCIS to members of the public.
Years of Experience: 15Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or Engineering or other STEM related degree
Location: Remote with occasional travel to the Washington, DC area (5-10%). Must be available to work on an Eastern time zone schedule.
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required, ability to receive a USCIS EOD (Public Trust)
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
10+ years’ relevant experience working in progressively more responsible relevant roles.
3+ years’ experience in architecture and design of enterprise applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
Significant application design and development experience using Java, Ruby on Rails, React JS, Scala, Swift, or Python.
Expertise in collaborating with customer leadership regarding the swift implementation of features based on law and policy changes.
Expertise in big-data application development and deployment utilizing tools such as Redshift and Databricks
Proficient in cloud engineering and building, delivering, and managing hybrid cloud environments.
Experience using CI/CD tools like Gradle, Docker, GitHub, Chef, Nexus, Jenkins, JUnit, Tomcat, SonarQube, Selenium, Cucumber.
Experience with Machine Learning libraries such as Google ML Kit, Keras, OpenCV, RoBERTa, SciKit-Learn, Apache MXNet, SageMaker, MLflow, TensorFlow
Able to mentor the team on standards and DevSecOps best practices and enforce development standards via use of quality gates in pipeline design
Identify opportunities for refinement, tools consolidation, continuous improvement, and cost-savings.
Stay abreast of new capabilities offered by open-source tools and cloud services in order to proactively and regularly provide recommendations to incorporate them.
Work as communicator, collaborator, and technical leader in a multi-product, multi-contractor environment.
Experience focusing on AI/ML engineering projects, DevSecOps and complex system and application architectures
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required, ability to receive a USCIS EOD (Public Trust)
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience working for DHS components preferred.
Experience in a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.
AWS certification preferred

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
