About the Team
The IBM Cloud Team is dedicated to ensuring that IBM remains at the forefront of cloud technology. The team’s leadership spans data center design, network architecture, storage, compute cluster, and flexible infrastructure services. The Overlay Network SRE team provides critical services essential to IBM’s many virtual private cloud (VPC) offerings. The responsibility of globally ensuring performance and predictability for IBM’s customers’ most demanding workloads is accomplished while maintaining leadership efficiency, resiliency, and security. There are many exciting opportunities within the team to learn and grow while making a substantial contribution to IBM’s customers’ success.
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, globally distributed, fault-tolerant cloud networks. IBM Cloud Network SREs own and manage the network reliability, uptime, performance, and capacity. IBM is looking for SREs to be part of our Global SDN Cloud SRE team. In this role you will support the IBM cloud operation as well as the deployment of the new network features and services, using cutting-edge technologies.
Responsibilities
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of network services, including design, deployment, operation, maintenance, and support.
- Understand technical architectures, capacity, tooling needs, automation, and new service launch plans.
- Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug challenging problems.
- Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call rotation.
- Maintain network by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
- Scale networks sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
- Support all aspects of Cloud network operations on a day-to-day basis and maintaining continuous availability, durability, scale and up time.
- Identifies opportunities to improve practices and procedures through analytics and technology.
- Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / related technical field or equivalent experience
- 7+ years’ experience with systems and/or software engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in software troubleshooting and support
- 2+ years’ experience in software development
- Experience programming in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Bash, Ansible etc.
- Excellent knowledge of networking technologies like TCP/IP, ACL, IPsec, security groups
- Experience in a DevOps environment
- Experience with cloud services
- Experience with analyzing and troubleshooting systems
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science / related technical field or equivalent experience
- Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems, cloud systems, and tools
- Experience with OpenStack or similar proprietary cloud like Azure or AWS
- Familiarity with CI/CD and their pipelines; experience in Jenkins a plus
- Familiarity with containers and high-availability clusters; experience with Docker and Kubernetes a plus

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
