Summary:
Ready At Dawn is looking for a Principal Concept Artist to join us in creating high profile original titles in the AAA Virtual Reality game space. In this role you would work with a team of talented conceptual artists in developing the artistic vision of our games and closely collaborate with many other diverse groups, throughout the design and art departments, to see it through to fruition. In addition to experience in the skills of the craft, ranging from gestural ideation, mood pieces, color keys, and production designs, we are looking for someone passionate about the creative process behind thoughtfully distilling high-level vision of gameplay experience, tone, and storytelling, into distinctive and compelling aesthetic designs for the characters, worlds, and various assets within. For the Principal role, we are looking for a candidate experienced in leading a team to establish a compelling vision for an original IP. This can range from ‘Blue Sky’ ideation in early preproduction, to establishing style guides to align the team on a cohesive visual direction, and throughout production taking on the highest order of complexity tasks to set the bar of visual quality in conceptual designs.

Work with the concept team and art and design leadership to create rapid ideation drawings and inspiring mood pieces to define the vision of the game world, props, and characters

Creative research and reference gathering to pitch compelling visual ideas with an engaging sense of story, character, and gameplay experience

Collaborate with other art and design disciplines to help steer initial conceptual direction into compelling visual and game experiences throughout development, including more detailed production callouts, paint-overs, and reference and mood boards

As befitting the principal role, play an active role in mentoring other artists on the team to both grow in their skills and careers

8+ years Industry experience as a concept artist in the entertainment industry

Portfolio that demonstrates conceptual design fundamentals and versatility in both rapid ideation sketching and production paintings

Experienced foundational art knowledge in theories of form, value, color, proportion, anatomy, and scale

Supplemental knowledge on architectural and industrial design, nature, anatomy, and costuming to infuse designs with a sense of immersion, authenticity, and storytelling

Proven communication skills and experience to both effectively give and receive creative and artistic critique

Familiarity with and interest for making games

$171,000/year to $229,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
