Business Manager Job Description
Microsoft’s Enterprise Commercial division serves our largest commercial customers, by helping them maximize the digital transformation opportunity using Microsoft’s suite of enterprise cloud offerings.
The Business Manager supports the Midwest Region Operating Unit (OU). The position plays an important role working directly with the leaders across the OU to enable successful Business and People operations. This role reports to the OU Operations Leader.
We are looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for operational excellence and process improvement – combining successful project management background with a willingness to complement his/her experience with executive exposure. You will help to drive strategic planning and successful execution in the EOU.
This leadership role requires the ability to think at a programmatic level and to effectively drive processes and consistency across the busines. This individual needs to be comfortable driving / executing on individual tasks and assignments, while simultaneously leading a high-performing team. This is a very visible role that will work with and engage directly with our leadership and management teams.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Business Process: The Business Manager will work hand-in-hand with the Sales Excellence leader on the Rhythm of the Business (RoB) for the org, and work with Finance and HR to coordinate business processes and headcount management activities. This role will also partner with finance to ensure effective budget management and forecasting.
This role also manages the CCE Business Program Manager and the Executive Admin team.
Business Planning and Leadership: Partner with the LT to manage the short and long-range planning processes ensuring coordination with corporate planning processes as well as planning integration across the broader org. Work with cross-division and cross-company/team counterparts to manage team participation as needed for key business events, next fiscal year planning, running business reviews, MYR, QBR and other strategic business planning activities.
Executive Communications: This role manages the Executive Comms Leader role and will help drive internal communications for team meetings and other internal communications at major milestones. Plan and manage team meetings including All Hands, staff meetings and manager meetings.
Business Integration: Drive strategic initiatives and provide thought leadership. Identify issues that impede business group success and provide solutions/recommendations. Identify opportunities to create cross group collaboration and synergies. Orchestrate team design conversation and facilitate successful implementation of organizational plans. Demonstrate discretion and professionalism when working with leadership team on sensitive business and organizational issues, manage ambiguity and propose workable solutions to challenging problems.
People and Culture: Help make the OU a great place to work in USEC by partnering with HRBP, Area Transformation Lead, USEC Chief of Staff and the OU leadership team to shape and drive the people agenda. Partner with HR to drive MS Poll action planning, lead Award Programs and OU Win process. Define, plan and drive cross-team process improvements (e.g., team recognition, development of business plans and RoB)
Special Projects: Drive high-impact cross-team projects as needed to meet the changing business environment and ensure the team is achieving commitments. Successful project management on strategic efforts that require hands-on experience across multiple functional disciplines.
Compliance: Serve as the EOU’s first point of contact – collaborate with compliance lead in finance to manage compliance questions/issues/investigations impacting the field and key customer engagements. Help communicate updates on compliance to the OU Leadership Team as needed.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong analytical and project management skills
Experience identifying an issue, investigating, developing a solution, implementing the change and monitoring the results
Track record of delivering measurable business improvements (improved value/efficiency, increasing quality and/or reduced costs); Establishing benchmarks and KPIs, articulating strategies to achieve goals
Partnering across teams, aligning goals and driving focused results with large impact
Ability to work and create structure in complex and ambiguous situations and respond flexibly in time sensitive situations
Experience running multiple projects and requests at the same time
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
5+ years of relevant business experience in program management, operations, or support roles
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Quick learner and willing to adapt to a dynamic working environment
