The DSO collaborates with many individuals and groups across the company and throughout industry, government, civil society, and academia to deliver on its mission. This includes working closely with Microsoft’s field teams to support engagement on digital safety issues around the globe. The Public Policy and Partnerships team in the DSO has an immediate opening for a business program manager, focused on field enablement and engagement.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
Supporting and growing an internal field community of Regional Digital Safety Leads for both proactive and reactive internal and external engagement on related global, regional, and national public policy issues across digital safety
Updating, maintaining, and developing materials for field personnel on key digital safety public policy issues, including internal backgrounders and resources for external distribution
Working closely with other internal teams to support, as appropriate, advocacy and external engagement, and supporting other operational and policy-related team projects
Managing processes to bring external perspectives into the DSO’s work
Supporting engagement in key digital safety partnerships and collaborations, including representing Microsoft at related events or working groups
Supporting digital safety awareness-raising and consumer capability-building initiatives, including commissioning research and coordinating campaigns, as needed
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in program or initiative management and/or public policy
Bachelors’ degree, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong interest in and knowledge of the overall global digital safety and content regulation landscape, as well as specific, topical issues (e.g., terrorism and violent extremism, hate speech, child sexual exploitation and abuse, etc.) – NOTE: There will be no requirement to review potentially disturbing content, but knowledge of the issues is critical
Awareness of related domains, including privacy, human rights, and free expression a plus
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated expertise in multistakeholder engagement and relationship-building, including across industry, civil society and/or government stakeholders
Ability to think creatively and design program assets that will capture stakeholders’ interest and attention
Proven ability to manage simultaneously multiple facts, figures, timelines and deliverables
